The Desert Ride - Day 15 - Yarla Kutjarra --> Cosmo Newbery

*The map should show now the entire trip so far, but doesn't seem to save much location information as we thought while out of Telstra reception. As a result there are gaps missing from our route, but hopefully you'll get most of the key points.

Also, not many photos until I can get a better internet connection*

This morning I woke up to the sound of dingos howling in the distance. We got up and were ready to roll out when most of the other campers were still in bed or just about to get breakfast going.

We left Yarla Kutjarra rest stop at about 6:30 local time. Not too long later we spotted to camels on the road ahead. We slowed down, but they decided the best way to run away from us was straight down the middle of the road. We slowly followed them for a hundred metres or so, then Frog stopped so he could take a photo with his phone. Of course, that is when they got off the road and weaved out of sight through the bushes.

We made it to Warburton Roadhouse at 7:50am to see the bowsers all locked up and someone at the gate shaking his finger and telling us that they don't open up shop for another hour and ten minutes. Luckily we have enough fuel in the jerry cans to get Frog to the next roadhouse some two hundred kilometres further down the Lasseter Hwy, this part of The Outback Way.

The road has generally smoothed out now, and with a tailwind, Frog is making good time with low fuel consumption. Not much wildlife to be seen on this stretch except for a dingo that ran across the road in the distance and vanished when it reached the long grass on the other side. It vanished so quickly I think it might be studying to be a magician.

The wind changed late in the morning and Frog ran out of fuel about 7km short of Tjuk*** Roadhouse. We were able to fill up a jerry can, so when we got to the roadhouse we had to fill up both petrol jerry cans and the bike's tank. Then, an unexpectedly good burger hit the spot for lunch.

We had a headwind for pretty much the whole afternoon, which made it relatively slow going for such good roads. Twice, Frog had to drop it back into 4th gear with full throttle to make it up hills and against the wind.

After more than 7 and a half hours of riding and driving we got as far as Cosmo Newbery where we have a three bedroom house to ourselves for $50 each. Time to cook a lot of the meat left in the freezer in the Hilux, so we can use it as a fridge instead.

Tonight we turned on the TV that was in the house as a bit of a luxury.
