The Desert Ride - Day 19 - Sandfire Roadhouse --> Broome

Breakfast and pack up as usual today, then it was on the road towards Broome. Broome is only about 320km away from Sandfire Roadhouse, so we knew we'd get there no problem, then have the rest of the day off.

Good thing it wasn't a big day planned, Frog was battling a headwind all the was until the corner by Roebuck Plains Roadhouse. We stopped a few times for breaks and snacks. Frog got video or photos of road trains blasting past, and I was trying to get footage of the wedge-tailed eagles that were around all the way up. One wedge-tailed eagle was in the middle of the lane, maybe feeding on some road kill, when Frog came along and it had to take flight to avoid joining its meal.

We got to Broome and went to the tourist info centre to find out about accommodation. We wanted somewhere that was close to town rather than a place in Cable Beach, that way we wouldn't have to drive to dinner or places like that. The local YHA had room for us so we drove over and put our bags in the room, then went for a walk.

Our walk took us straight to the Roey, the Roebuck Bay Hotel, for a beer. There wasn't a huge selection of beer, so we each had a schooner of Swan Lager (black duck top). After sinking that beer (in frigid air conditioning), we continued our walk through town for a look at the souvenir stores and to see what there was to see.

That mission accomplished, we drove to Cable Beach, took photos of the Indian Ocean and dipped our toes in, then drove over to Town Beach, to check that out too. With nothing else better to do we drove back to Cable Beach and had a coffee (hot chocolate for me) and waited so we could watch the the sunset over the Indian Ocean.

Dinner tonight was at a Mediterranean restaurant, Cairo Cafe, and they had really good meals - lots of it, and very tasty. Would recommend if anyone is in Broome looking for a place to eat. After dinner we made it back to the backpackers in time for happy hour, then we each finished charging batteries or phones and getting things ready for blog posts.
