The Desert Ride - Day 26 - Gregory Roadhouse --> Kynuna

*The map should show now the entire trip so far, but doesn't seem to save much location information as we thought while out of Telstra reception. As a result there are gaps missing from our route, but hopefully you'll get most of the key points.

Also, not many photos until I can get a better internet connection*

We found out that the kangaroos around here have less road sense than the wallabies from yesterday afternoon. A few decided to play chicken with Frog and one of them almost lost, but Frog was able to brake enough to avoid contact.

Even the wedge-tailed eagles are playing chicken with Frog this morning.

First coffee break for the day was at Burke and Wills Roadhouse. There were cowboys and cowgirls everywhere and lots of horses and horse trailers there - all getting ready for the rodeo that is on there this weekend. Sounds and looks like it is a pretty big event and it would be interesting to stick around for it if we weren't making a beeline for Newcastle.

The next town was Cloncurry where we fuelled up and stopped at the Cloncurry Bakery for lunch. We all sent emails or messages while we had the chance and I uploaded a few blog posts to catch up.

After lunch we hit the road and drove straight to McKinlay and the world famous Walkabout Creek Pub from Crocodile Dundee. They even had Wal's 'Never Never Safari Tours' Valiant ute and the chains-for-doors truck that Mick Dundee drives in the first movie (going from memory) out the front of the pub. Now I can say I've been to Walkabout Creek Hotel!

Surprisingly there was no merchandise to be seen for sale at the pub, Gerald had to ask if there were any stickers he could buy for his bike, and they were behind the bar for some reason. It was one of the only places I would have bought a souvenir, but they didn't have any.

We moved on and stopped to find accommodation at Blue Heeler Hotel Motel in Kynuna. We found a bloke having a beer out the front of the pub and got to talking and found out he works at Erldunda Roadhouse, the very place we had stayed for two nights earlier in the trip.
