The Desert Ride - Day 12 - Alice Springs Rest Day

*The map should show now the entire trip so far, but doesn't seem to save much location information as we thought while out of Telstra reception. As a result there are gaps missing from our route, but hopefully you'll get most of the key points.

Also, not many photos until I can get a better internet connection*

As today was a rest day, that was mostly what we did, but a few things of note happened; Frog pulled the air filter out of the bike to shake all the dust out while he had the time, and when Tony and Frog went to get a coffee down the street, Frog ran into his cousin's partner, Anika. They all saw each other along with Frog's cousin Terri in Adelaide on the Ride Around Australia ride two years ago.

Frog and Anika.

Frog and Anika.

After lunch, myself, Tony, and Frog went for a drive to Standley Chasm, which is 40 or so km away from Alice Springs, and did a short 30 or 40 minute round trip walk into the chasm. Not a bad little walk.

On the way back we stopped at the John Flynn's Grave Historical Reserve to see what that was about. John Flynn was responsible for the Royal Flying Doctor Service beginning. He worked a lot to make sure that, as much as possible, every farm had a radio so that everyone could contact others for help if needed.

Aside from those things, there was some sorting out of permits to travel through certain areas in the next few days, and we ate, but that's about all that I can think of at the moment.

South again towards Uluru tomorrow.
