The Desert Ride - Day 28 - Blackall --> St George

*The map should show now the entire trip so far, but doesn't seem to save much location information as we thought while out of Telstra reception. As a result there are gaps missing from our route, but hopefully you'll get most of the key points.

Also, not many photos until I can get a better internet connection*

We slept in today, it was dark enough in the hotel room that we didn't get up before about 6:45. But, as usual, we got up, ate breakfast, packed, and left.

Our first stop was for coffee in Tambo at Fanny Mae's Cafe. Then, we stopped about halfway to Augathella to empty the jerry into the bike. That made it so we could make it to Augathella where Frog refuelled the bike.

Next stop was Morven, and we made it there around lunch time, so we were hoping for a bakery, or cafe, maybe. The only things that we could see that were open were the servos, so after a quick rest stop we kept moving.

It's been around 100km or less between towns today, so we've often been able to make it to the next town for the next break. We filled up the Hilux in Mitchell, asked where we might get some food, "the bakery next to the foodworks might be open." I don't think anywhere except for the servo and the foodworks were open, so we got some ham, a tomato, and some mandarins, then drove down the road to find some shade and had sandwiches for lunch.

We set off down the road to St George. It was made up of a lot of narrow sections and had lots of cows by the road, but all sealed. And that's what's important right now, since we're just heading straight home. We saw emus off in paddocks but surprisingly it was the cattle and (not so surprisingly) a few kangaroos that wanted to make life interesting for Frog today. Again, there was no contact, but a few close calls.

We didn't bother earlier in the day to check for accommodation in St George, as it seemed like it would be a big enough town to have plenty of accommodation. Well, we got here. And there is plenty of accommodation. But apparently there is a big softball carnival or event on in town and pretty much everywhere is booked out. I checked out one motel and sent a text to Tony with the price, but while he was checking elsewhere someone else came and snatched that last room available in the motel I was at!

So we're at a caravan park in a cabin, and it's cheaper than the motels we were checking out anyway, so all good. Although, it's lucky we got in when we did - someone else booked another cabin straight after Tony, so we might not have gotten anything if we were too much later.

We went to the pub, Cobb & Co, for a few beers and a feed. It's taken about half a bloody hour just to get the first beer! We decided it would be too busy here to eat so we left and went to the Chinese Pearl Restaurant for dinner instead. When we walked in there were no other customers, but apparently if we'd been there 30 minutes earlier it would have been standing room only... Not ideal when you want to eat at a restaurant...
