The Desert Ride - Day 7 - Mungerannie --> Somewhere in SA

*We are having some technical issues with the embedded map. It is supposed to show the entire trip but seems to be only showing the most recent part at the time of this posting. All the location data is still saved, but we don't know why it is only showing part of the trip.

Also, not many photos until I can get a better internet connection*

The day an emu lost a fight with a frog.

This morning myself, Tony and Frog were up and about ready to get breakfast food and utensils out of the trucks but couldn't find Rod. He wasn't in the room he and Frog shared, he wasn't in the amenities block... Apparently last night Frog's snoring was just too much for Rod. He went out to sleep in the cab of his truck instead.

After breakfast we left Mungerannie, continuing south on the Birdsville Track and didn't see another soul until a vehicle passed going the other way over an hour later.

Now that we're heading south the cold wind has found us again. Frog has had to lean into the crosswind as he rides along, and when we stop for breaks none of us want to stay stopped for too long. It was frigid after having a few days without the cold breeze.

After the second break I was driving the Hilux with Tony in the passenger seat. Both of us saw an emu suddenly pop up out of nowhere and run east towards the road and Frog. I think both of us thought it might pass behind him, but in the end the two came together. Luckily, Frog was able to walk away, the emu died in the incident.

After taking inventory of the bike and making sure it still ran fine and was sound mechanically, Frog took off towards Marree for a coffee and a place to bend things back into place on the bike. On the way there we saw more emus but none of them came onto the road.

After half an hour in town Frog had the bike as straightened as it was going to be so we left Marree on the Oodnadatta Track.

Out the windows we could see Lake Eyre South stretching out to the horizon, so we stopped when there was a nice viewing spot to take a few photos.

After that there was a long flat-ish section of the road, followed by a rise-and-fall kind of section of the road, followed by a rolling hills section of the road, there were plenty of dips and crests to keep the driving from getting too monotonous, but for most of the afternoon there wasn't much else interesting to the horizon.

After getting close to 500km for the day Frog found the first good camping spot he could and we're camping by a couple of dried river beds and an old, disused windmill.
