*We are having some technical issues with the embedded map. It is supposed to show the entire trip but seems to be only showing the most recent part at the time of this posting. All the location data is still saved, but we don't know why it is only showing part of the trip.
Also, not many photos until I can get a better internet connection*
Another early morning after camping last night, although this time the night was much colder than when we camped at St Ann Range. It was less windy though, so that's a compromise.
Not long after sunrise we got moving again on the Oodnadatta Track, stopping once before getting to Oodnadatta. Surprisingly there was no Telstra reception, but there was reception for Optus in Oodnadatta. As a result I was the only one with reception, so while the others were having coffee, I got busy uploading blog posts for days 6 & 7. There were no photos with those posts because my connection was slow enough through my phone and my laptop battery low enough that the battery wouldn't have lasted.
After checking the Hilux's oil level and air filter (and trying to hit the dust out of the air filter) we got moving again, along the Oodnadatta Track until the turn off for Mt Dare, onto a much more corrugated and bumpy track.
The track stayed bumpy and corrugated all the way to Dalhousie Springs. We stopped and had a chat to a few travellers on the way and when we got there. Everyone else was travelling to travel and thought it was great that Frog is doing what he is doing.
We didn't stick around at Dalhousie Springs for long, we were trying to et to Mt Dare by sundown. It took long enough to get there because there were all different types of gravel roads between Dalhousie Springs and Mt Dare. There were regular old bumpy sections, corrugated gravel sections, corrugated sandy sections, corrugated sections with bull dust holes ("Death holes" as Frog was calling them), rocky sections, sections where there was more road missing than there was there...
Well, a considerable amount of time and two falls from Frog later, we made it to Mt Dare, but we didn't know when we were getting close because there were no mountains around! No mountains for miles and miles!
Maybe they called it Mt Dare simply on a dare and it stuck...
And, by the way, it wasn't emus that took Frog down today, it was sand at low speeds suddenly turning his front tyre in directions he didn't want to go.
As we had dinner at Mt Dare Hotel we laughed about the three times in two days that Frog has come off the bike. We can laugh now that we're done for the day with those particular roads and because he hasn't really hurt himself in the falls.
