*The map doesn't seem to save as much location information as we thought while out of Telstra reception. As a result there are gaps missing from our route, but hopefully you'll get most of the key points.
Also, not many photos until I can get a better internet connection*
This morning we just got up, got dressed, and left. Everything at the Mt Dare Hotel was pricey and we were all fine with having our packed cereal for breakfast.
The roads this morning were varying just like yesterday, some gravel, some sand where Frog took another fall, but again, wasn't injured. Once we got to Finke we turned left to take a shorter route to the Stuart Highway that runs up to Alice Springs from the south. It probably gets there from the north as well, but I haven't seen that far yet.
We stopped a few times on the side of the dirt roads to have a break and a snack, and eventually made it to Kulgera Roadhouse where we filled up with fuel and met some motorbike riders who were also heading to Alice Springs. They were riding a variety of makes like Kawasaki and BMW (I think), and all of them were a good deal bigger than the CBR 125. While there we had some lunch then got back on the road so we would have plenty of time in Alice this evening.
We were planning on stopping at Erldunda Roadhouse so we could make use of phone reception to contact home and check emails, and the plan from there was to go the 200km to Alice Springs this afternoon. That would mean that we would come 200km back tomorrow morning to get to Uluru tomorrow. Instead of all that we are going to cut Alice Springs out of our plans and go from here to Uluru. Now we just have to decide if we will stay at this roadhouse or at one down the road towards Uluru.
...
Turns out we're staying here as there is no phone reception at the one we were considering down the road.
When we got to the roadhouse here I wandered around and found a few of Frog's friends - there's an emu farm here at the roadhouse. As far as I know, the emus aren't farmed for anything, they're just cared for here and visitors can purchase feed for the emus.
There is also a cat that lives here at the roadhouse. Apparently it was orphaned, so the management decided to give it a place to stay. It is a very friendly cat, and hopped up onto my lap while I was checking my emails outside earlier.
Last note for the day: if you're ever near Erldunda Roadhouse and need a meal, stop in. Huge meals, and pretty good.
