Get up pack up, have breakfast, leave. Not necessarily in that order.
The Desert Ride - Day 20 - Broome --> Mary Pool
Last night there was some kind of party going on at the youth hostel, Kimberley Klub. There was pretty loud music, a lot of people, and someone telling them they had to be nearer to the bar and away from the rooms. That didn't last too long. Eventually though, the noise died down and people went to bed... "and then, the security guard who kicked them out for making noise, decided to come back and rearrange all the furniture!" was Frog's account of when someone came and stacked up the chairs at some ungodly hour.
The Desert Ride - Day 19 - Sandfire Roadhouse --> Broome
The Desert Ride - Day 18 - Newman --> Sandfire Roadhouse
This morning we waited in Newman for woolies to open so we could stock up on weetbix, milk, bread and water. And maybe some fruit. While we were hanging out waiting, a truck driver said he wasn't sure about the present condition of the dirt road we'd be taking today, he didn't know if the floodways needed repairing after recent rain. He did recommend a good pub though.
The Desert Ride - Day 17 - Travellers Rest --> Newman
Last night was much warmer to start with than any other night we have camped, I didn't even have my sleeping bag zipped up all the way! During the night, though, it got progressively colder, and by morning there was a dew over everything, including the inside ceiling of my swag. Tony and Frog both had wet sleeping bags, and Frog's lambs wool mats that he has on his bike seat and back rest were wet too. It turned into one of the coldest mornings we have had.
The Desert Ride - Day 16 - Cosmo Newbery --> The Travellers Rest near Wiluna
Something I forgot to mention in yesterday's blog post was all the cars. There were many, many cars by the side of the road! Burnt out, or rusted, or upside down, or all three of those. One traveller at Yarla Kutjarra said they had counted well in excess of 100 abandoned cars on their travels from west to east.
The Desert Ride - Day 15 - Yarla Kutjarra --> Cosmo Newbery
The Desert Ride - Day 14 - Yulara --> Yarla Kutjarra
The Desert Ride - Day 13 - Alice Springs --> Yulara
Rod Decided, instead of coming south then west with us past Uluru, to head home from Alice Springs. So this morning we unpacked and repacked the trucks, moving one fridge to the back of the cab in the Hilux, and whatever other things we needed. We all left the hotel where we were staying, Rod going one way, and Frog, Tony and I going another.
The Desert Ride - Day 12 - Alice Springs Rest Day
As today was a rest day, that was mostly what we did, but a few things of note happened; Frog pulled the air filter out of the bike to shake all the dust out while he had the time, and when Tony and Frog went to get a coffee down the street, Frog ran into his cousin's partner, Anika. They all saw each other along with Frog's cousin Terri in Adelaide on the round Australia trip two years ago.
